Objective: To evaluate the clinical effectiveness of prolotherapy in the patients with acute partial rupture of supraspinatus tendon.
Materials and Methods: Subjects had the partial rupture of supraspinatus tendon confirmed by ultrasonography, and the onset of the symptom was within 2 weeks. Subjects were randomly assigned to 2 groups; prolotherapy group (n=16) and control group (n=15). Prolotherapy group performed prolotherapy with 1cc of 15% dextrose and control group received nonsteroid anti-inflammatory medication. Visual analog scale (VAS), Pain Rating Scale (PRS) were measured initially and 4 weeks after treatment.
Results: There were no significant differences in subject age or the degree of pain between the 2 groups. The prolotherapy group showed greater improvement in VAS, PRS compared to control group after 4 weeks (p£¼0.05).
Conclusion: Prolotherapy is beneficial for acute care of supraspinatus tendon partial rupture.
